Une Famille Un Toit 44 (A Family A Roof 44) is a French non-profit-making et non-governmental organization founded in 1995.

Its mission is to welcome and accompany any person or family in difficulty mostly because of poor housing conditions.


The association intervenes in the Loire Atlantique department, in western France, covering Ancenis, Châteaubriant and Nantes metropole territories.

The organization is composed of six services which correspond to its six main activities: social support, rental and property management, family pensions, heritage and contractual constructing work, housing improvement and the cluster of Nantes.

  • The Departmental Council for the Housing Support via the Fonds de Solidarité au Logement (FSL)
  • The French State for the family pensions and the social support
  • The City of Nantes for Rental management and Professional Insertion
  • Nantes Métropole for Projects in Romania via its bilateral cooperation agreement
  • The Abbé Pierre Foundation
  • The Orange Foundation for the “I learn French” project
  • As well as other organizations and foundations

A little bit of history…


first roots of “Une Famille Un Toit 44” under the form of a Property Investment Company (Société Civile Immobilière) to avoid the sale of a farm house in bankruptcy.


An association of the same name is created in Maine and Loire, the neighbor department, on the initiative of activists associations committed to housing of the most deprived, in partnership with institutions, SOS Peasants NGO and ATD Quart Monde NGO.


The association Une Famille Un Toit 44 is created in Loire-Atlantique.


First financial agreement with the General Council of Loire Atlantique for social and housing support.


Beginning of the expansion of its activities, with a rental management activity, and the hiring of a technical supervisor to maintain its housing units.


Beginning of the social and housing support for French Travelers and Romanian Roma in the Nantes metropole area.


Creation of the SOS Slums program, under the aegis of the Abbé Pierre Foundation, to fight against insalubrity.


Opening of the first Family Pension in Saint Géréon, "L'Ecochère", close to Ancenis, also labeled "Transition house" by the Abbé Pierre Foundation.


Opening of the second Family Pension / Transition House, “Les Toits Bleus”, in Saint Mars la Jaille, same label.

Development of "Travelers and Roma" activities in the Nantes metropolitan area with offices in Sainte Luce sur Loire offering: social support to Romanian Roma, management of travelers properties and activism within the Citizens Travelers Association of Loire Atlantique (ADGVC44).


Fight against energy poverty – Une Famille Un Toit 44 becomes an accredited operator for the national Housing Improvement program called “Habiter Mieux” (Better living).


Creation of the Support Platform for the Insertion of the Occupiers of Illicit Settlements (SIOCI) in partnership with the Loire Atlantique Prefecture and the Interdepartmental Delegation for Accommodation and Housing Access (DIHAL).


Start of the “I learn French” project.
